In The News
An Antique collector at heart, Michael Machacek of Enchanted
Imports Inc. found himself one day searching for that "Forgotten
Treasure" and Bang! He located a small slot machine bank circa
1930's, he then started to think, "Why not duplicate this item
for today's use"? So he then started to market his idea thru
Marketing Directors at various Casino's. One day the phone rang
and sure enough we had a very interested Casino Buyer.
"There are no moving parts, just a cast iron bank made to look
like a tiny slot machine" states Machacek. It's really a win win
situation for any casino, either a give-away or a purchased item
from the gift shop, it has the casino name and town cast on the
face of the slot bank to always remind the holder of the bank of
that particular establishment.
Other Casino's have shown interest and one even stated that
their idea would be to use this slot bank as an additional gift
when their players hit a small jackpot and instructing them to
return the bank once filled to redeem their coins, collect what
was saved from the cashier in paper currency, return the player
his/her bank along with a "Match Play" of $5.00 or $10.00 casino
cash, and then , back to the casino floor. We can replicate just
about anything for today's market. What's next, a hamburger bank?
or how about?????

April 2004 Edition
Enchanted Imports, Inc.
Importing is playing an
increasingly important role in the architectural
salvage industry as compared to what it did three to five years
ago,
according to Michael Machacek, owner of Enchanted Imports, Inc. in
Land O’ Lakes, Wisconsin. Consumers, he said, are looking for the
smell, taste and look of architectural salvage and oftentimes they
don’t care if an item they like is antique or not.
Machacek imports a wide variety
of new and salvaged items. Three or
four years ago, he estimates that architectural salvage retailers
in the U.S.
accounted for only about five to 10 percent of his customer base.
Today,
that number is 25 percent and continues to grow.
To illustrate his point,
Machacek said that three years ago he was
knocking on the door of an architectural salvage dealer, trying to
spark
his interest in new cast iron urns that looked like period urns.
The dealer
wasn’t interested, telling Machacek they sold only authentic
architectural
salvage. A year later that same dealer called Machacek and said,
“You
know, we’re going to need some of those urns after all.” That
experience
is indicative of the growing popularity of imported architectural
items,
Machacek explained.
Enchanted Import’s most popular
imported items among the architectural
salvage industry are cast iron urns and planters, quarried slate
roof
squares and hand-carved marble mantels. All of the materials are
new,
with the marble being imported from Asia, Italy and India, and the
urns
and planters coming from Asia, with most of it originating in
China.
While some architectural salvagers handle their own importing,
Machacek said those salvagers often face a challenge when problems
arise with either the supplier or product in a country that’s
thousands of
miles away. Companies like Enchanted Imports, Inc. that specialize in
importing
offer customers the added assurance of having established contacts
in
the countries of origin who can handle problems on a local level
and are
paid to represent customers’ best interests.
Another benefit to using an
expert in the importing business is that
oftentimes importers will know about products that most of the
market
isn’t even aware of. “There are items out there that people
in the states really don’t know are available. We have pickers in
four countries, and all the time we get communication from them
about something they have found and we’ll pass it on,” Machacek
said, citing cut stone relief's from Turkey as one such item.
Imports’ profitability is an
added attraction for architectural salvage
dealers as the items can often be priced at five to six times
their original
cost.
January through April is
Enchanted Import's busy season as that’s when
orders are placed so that items are received for the busy summer
selling
season. Machacek estimates that it takes 50 days from the time he
receives an order until it is fabricated and ready for shipping.
It takes
another three to four weeks for the shipment to travel from the
port of origin to the destination port.
Enchanted Imports, Inc. offers
customers order delivery direct to their doors
from the product’s source. Orders arrive in either 20-foot or
40-foot shipping
containers with a maximum weight of 35,000 lbs. Anything heavier
than that would require special permits from every state in which
the truck
traveled through to make delivery, Machacek said. Customers whose
order size won’t fill an entire container can still receive their
product
through a shared order or “consul” as it’s known in the shipping
industry.
Machacek’s foray into importing began with a 1996 trip to Mexico
“I saw giant planters, or what I thought were planters. After
further
investigation, I found out these were called chimmineas.”
Machacek said he brought a load of these outdoor clay fireplaces
to the United States just to see what would happen, noting that
his company was one of the very first in about 30 states, starting
in Chicago and expanding outwards, to offer consumers this wildly
popular product. Enchanted Imports, Inc. rode this product’s wave of
popularity for several years, and then grew its business to
include imports from Asia.
Today the company offers a wide
variety of imported materials on its
website – www.enchantedforestimports.com.
Architectural Salvage
Expands to Some Reproduction
Summary:
With Architectural
Antique Elements getting more scarce every day a new approach
proving a success.
They are not that easy to find, states Michael Machacek of
Enchanted Imports, Inc., referring of course to Architectural Antiques,
If people can't get "The Real Thing" they then don't mind settling
for something that looks, feels and appears like the real thing.
Of course it's marketed as Replicated and that is all that counts.
We have seen a surge in selling our replicated line to Salvage
dealers states Machacek. The perception of value is paramount in
our period pieces of Cast Iron and Marble Mantels, today's market
insists on quality and that is exactly what we bring to the table.

Victorian Source Magazine Mentions Enchanted Imports, Inc.

Enchanted Imports, Inc. specializes in garden accessories and
fountains. The items that really caught our eye include all types
of Victorian street lights and sconces, the fanciest fencing and
gates, cast-iron garden edging and mailbox, and hand-carved marble
fireplace mantels. And, the marble gazebo would be at home in any
Victorian garden. Their cast-iron and bronze urns, bases and
statues are sophisticated enough to also reside indoors, as would
the hand-carved marble tiles. The online Enchanted Imports contains
a small sampling of their imports from around the world, but a
catalogue is available.
"Enchanted Imports, Inc., Inc Highlighted in 'This Old House'
Magazine April 2003 Edition.
From rustic hoops of
bamboo to aristocratic pattern rendered in cast iron,
decorative edging is a handsome finishing touch for any size
bed of shrubs or flowers. "It will make any garden look
great and visually delineate beds and paths from lawn," says
This Old House landscape contractor Roger Cook.
Most ornamental edging
measures about 12 inches high when installed, and comes in
lengths up to 4 feet. Put in as many sections as you
like by simply pushing the spiky legs into the ground.
Roger's on caveat:
"Don't expect this kind of edging to keep grass from
encroaching into flower beds or to keep soil from washing
out." Sheet-metal edging or cobblestones suck into grade
do that job most effectively.

" Bringing Back The Victorian Era"
(Sun Feb 02 2003)
Enchanted Imports, Inc. has a goal and that goal is to bring
back the Victorian Era, that is to say by replicating that Era
with Cast Iron, Marble, Bronze and Furniture for Home/Office Decor
or outside in the garden.
"We realized the demand for something a little different and put
together a huge collection of unique Home and Garden Decor" states
Michael Machacek, Pres. of Enchanted Imports, Inc.
"We not only service Garden Centers but now have a following in
the industries of Antique Shops, Architectural Landscapers,
Builders, Catalog Houses, Auction and Municipalities all asking
for Victorian decor"
The people in England are very fortunate to have access to the
real thing but replicating these Artifacts is pure pleasure to
share here in the States and else where around the Globe.
"Recasting Yesterday for Today's Treasures"
So called "Experts" in the architectural industries of
Antiques, Period Garden Elements and indoor/outdoor Home Decor
stated "it couldn't be done"
So called "Experts" in the field of Antique Architectural Period
Elements for the Home and Garden mused, "It would be a
hardship to gather cast iron antiques from the Victorian Era and
replicate them for today's market place without compromising the
integrity of the piece itself."
Enchanted Imports, Inc., did just that! "Find me a will
and a demand and I will find a way" stated Michael Machacek of
EFI. "We are Reproducing artifacts from the past from a mere
5oz. piece to elaborate Architectural Wonders of Yesterday" We
continue to receive calls and emails from interested wholesalers
and retailers wanting to know about our program of replication
